We founded the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation (ADDF) in honor of our mother, Estée Lauder, because we saw firsthand the urgent need for treatments. This is a disease that affects not only the patient, but entire families – millions of them around the globe. And we are making remarkable headway. The level of progress we have seen in 2024 is truly unprecedented, and it is an honor to lead an organization that is transforming the landscape and bringing hope to those in need.
For the first time in history, we have multiple effective drugs available to help Alzheimer’s patients. And the ADDF continues to drive this momentum forward; advancing novel therapeutics, better ways to diagnose the disease, and prevention methods; thanks in large part to the leadership of our brilliant Co-Founder and Chief Science Officer, Dr. Howard Fillit, and the many innovative scientists we support.
We were thrilled to honor the impact of several of these scientists in Stockholm during a special celebration for the tenth anniversary of the ADDF’s Melvin R. Goodes Prize, which each year recognizes a pioneering researcher who has made an exceptional impact on the Alzheimer's field. The city’s tradition of recognizing brilliance through the Nobel Prize made it the perfect place to celebrate the Goodes Prize as it marked a decade of accelerating innovation, enabling breakthroughs, and shaping Alzheimer's science.
From the beginning, the ADDF’s unique structure has positioned us to propel the science towards the future of treatment. Our venture philanthropy model allows us to ensure each of our successes builds upon the others, with any returns re-invested into new ideas that will lead to the next breakthrough. And our board, which we expanded over the past year, convenes key thought leaders from industry, academia, business, and philanthropy who provide critical insights and expertise to help us conquer this disease.
It is an honor to work with them, as well as with our many dedicated partners, including Bill Gates, the Dolby family, the Foundation for a Better World, and the Shanahan Family Foundation. And of course, we could not fulfill our mission without our incredible donors.
We are confident that, together, we will soon create a world where no family has to worry about Alzheimer's.
With our gratitude,
